Welcome to Pheasant’s Roost Shepherds Hut
Our shepherd’s hut in Yorkshire is perfect for a romantic short break all year round. Pheasant’s Roost is a great choice for anyone looking for a luxury glamping experience with its own private log-fired hot tub. We also have excellent eco credentials too so if sustainability is important to you, look no further. Our shepherd’s hut sits in a small paddock and looks out onto open farmland, in the small village of Thorpe Bassett. The village is 5 miles from Malton, renowned as Yorkshire’s Food Capital. We offer holiday accommodation for up to two people. The countryside is perfect for hiking. If you enjoy walking, the Wold’s Way is almost on our doorstep. We also accept up to two dogs, and now have an enclosure to keep them safe.
Enjoy a relaxing short break with a hot tub…
Choose from a 2 night short break or longer; our shepherd’s hut is comfortable, clean, and offers a touch of luxury. There’s a private wood-fired hot tub too so if you’re used to a spa with bubbles then why not try this slightly different experience? We think you’ll enjoy the peaceful experience of soaking in deep, warm water whilst listening to the sounds of the countryside or star-gazing. The hot tub is charged as an optional extra so that guests who do not want to use it for personal or environmental reasons can pay less. You can also arrange to have the hot tub heated for the night of your arrival. Just arrive, drop your bags, and take a dip. Logs are supplied for the log burner and fire pit, and we include bed linen and towels as well as tea, coffee, and biscuits on arrival.
If it is chilly outside, light the log burner and get toasty in no time. In addition, when the weather is fine you can relax in the paddock, light the barbecue and dine Al-Fresco on the little patio, bistro table, and chairs.
A warm welcome to all
All guests can be assured of a warm welcome. Whilst we respect your privacy, we live close by and quite often can pop over if you need anything.
We are dog-friendly, so you’re welcome to bring your pet at no extra cost. There are lots of off-road walks minutes from our door. Please ask us if you’d like to use the portable fence. Should you forget your dog’s bed, bowls or towels we have spares available. Malton is dog-friendly – many pubs, cafes, and shops welcome them, which means they can enjoy a short break too!

Shepherds Hut in North Yorkshire Countryside…
We’ve planned our shepherd’s hut to make maximum use of the available space. Our self-catering accommodation has a fold-down table, a mini-fridge, a two-ring hob, and a microwave with a grill. To keep you warm choose from the little log burner or our eco electric heater. Relax and enjoy the views of North Yorkshire farmland whilst you eat. There’s enough crockery, cutlery, and pans to rustle up a great meal.
En-suite shower room…
Our shepherd’s hut has an en-suite shower room with a powerful contemporary electric shower in a surprisingly spacious shower cubicle. Pheasants Roost has a fully flushable w.c. and a compact Belfast hand-basin. There is also a heated towel radiator that provides additional warmth.
Near our shepherds hut…
In nearby Rillington, two pubs and a fish and chip shop serve food, as well as a general store and butchers which are about 1/2 a mile away. Public transport is also only half a mile away from our holiday accommodation, so you can start part of the way along the Yorkshire Wolds Way route, stop at Thorpe Bassett for a few nights, then continue to Filey or Hull.
Pheasant’s Roost is midway between York and Scarborough, near the A64 which means that you can easily access local attractions. Want to visit the coast, take in historic York, ride the North Yorkshire Moors Railway to Whitby, wander around Castle Howard or have an exciting day out at Flamingoland? Then our shepherd’s hut in Yorkshire is a great choice for a short break. There are several dog-friendly beaches on the East Coast too.
