What time can we check in/ do we check out?
Because we have a key safe, you can arrive any time after 3pm, until late. We do try to be around to welcome you when you arrive but if we aren’t available feel free to text, call or email if you have any problems (or need directions!) Please don’t arrive any earlier unless by prior agreement as we like to make sure that the property is thoroughly cleaned between visitors. Check out time is 10am. Occasionally we may be able to offer later check outs. Please ask in advance.
What is included in your breakfast pack?
We offer an uncooked breakfast pack as an option. We buy high quality, high welfare meat from our local butcher, Turner’s, in Rillington which is sourced from local farms. This means better animal welfare and less food miles. As a minimum, the meat breakfast pack includes: 2 rashers bacon, 2 sausages, 1 free range egg, 2 slices of bread, ketchup and butter.
We are also happy to supply vegetarian (and with notice a vegan or gluten free) breakfast packs. This will include 2 eggs, 2 veggie sausages and usually baked beans, tomatoes or mushrooms plus bread.
Is smoking permitted?
We don’t allow smoking or vaping in the shepherd’s hut, but you may smoke or vape outside. Please use the small metal bin for your cigarette ends.
How far are the shops and pubs?
There are 2 pubs that serve food, a fish and chip shop, butcher and a village store with post office . Andy (in the general) also sells bacon rolls and pies if you’re peckish!) John, the butcher also does ready made meals). These are all in Rillington, which is only 1/2 mile away on the A64. Turn left as you leave and either drive 1/2 mile down Collinson’s Lane then turn right onto the A64. Most services are close to the traffic lights (200m).
Alternatively, bring some sturdy footwear (or wellies when it’s wet!) and walk 10 mins. 200m down the road there’s a footpath between some trees and runs across a field and through a playing field. Keep walking straight, alongside the beck (a stream to non-Yorkshire folk!) towards the traffic lights. Remember to bring a torch (or charge your phone) as there are no street lights; when you’ve enjoyed a few drinks you may need some help finding your way home!
There are no services in Thorpe Bassett itself. You’ll find Morrison’s, Lidl and Asda supermarkets in Norton and Malton ( 5 miles away). There’s a great selection of independent shops, cafe’s and bars if you’re keen to support the local economy. We even have a traditional, independent cinema. Ask us for our favourite places.
